A fleeting thoughts app for macOS
NoteDrop is a menu bar scratch pad
for thoughts that don't need
to last forever.
Summon it with ⇧⌘' from any app, type a thought, pick a timer — and let it float on your desktop until it quietly disappears. No account. No cloud. No clutter to clean up.
Your desktop wasn't built for fragments
Sticky notes on your monitor.
Twelve apps with one line each.
A Slack message to yourself
you'll never read again.
Your Mac already has a folder system, a calendar, a task manager. They want projects — full documents, structured todos, dated events. But most thoughts aren't projects. They're fragments. A port number. A reminder to call someone. A sentence that arrived mid-meeting. So the fragments pile up in the wrong places — or worse, they stay in your head, taking up space until something more important pushes them out.
One hotkey.
Anywhere on macOS.
No app to find in Spotlight, no window to hunt for in Mission Control. Press ⇧⌘' from inside Xcode, Figma, Slack, anywhere — and a blank page meets you exactly where your cursor is.
- Lives quietly in the menu bar — no Dock icon, no clutter of its own
- Opens in under 80ms, focus already in the text field
- Esc to cancel, ⌘Enter to save — never touch the mouse
Give every thought
a category and a clock.
Tag it Idea, Work, Personal, Waiting, Research, Important, or Calm — each with its own quiet glow. Then choose how long it gets to matter: 15 minutes, an hour, a day, or until you say otherwise.
Reminders that float
where the work happens.
Not buried in another app. Not a notification you swipe away. A note becomes a small, calm card sitting at the edge of your screen — present, never demanding.
Sticky notes that
clean themselves up.
A note's glow softens as its time runs low, then it lets go — gently, without a trace left behind on your screen. The thought is never lost. It's just no longer in the way.
Gone from view.
Never gone for good.
Every note that disappears is kept in a searchable History, until you choose to clear it. Find it, copy it, or bring it back as a floating card — exactly when it matters again, not a moment before.
- Full-text search across every note you've ever dropped
- Restore a note instantly as a new floating card
- Set your own retention window — 7, 30, or 90 days
Local notes.
No account required.
A lightweight Mac utility for quick thoughts — not another cloud notes system asking to sync your half-finished ideas to a server. NoteDrop stays on your machine, on your terms.
Small thoughts.
Big difference.
NoteDrop isn't meant to replace your notes app or task manager. It's for the fragments — the things too small for a project but too important to forget.
- Developers — Dump that bug you noticed mid-sprint. The port number you'll forget. The branch name you need in 20 minutes. Without leaving your editor.
- Designers — Capture a layout observation while mocking up screens. A hex color. A font pairing idea. Without leaving Figma.
- Writers — A sentence that arrives mid-paragraph. A quote you want to use later. Let it sit at the edge of your screen until you're ready.
- Everyone — "Call dentist." "Tell mom re: Sunday." "Buy milk." The small things that shouldn't be living in your head.
Drop a thought.
Watch it settle.
This is a small piece of the real thing. Type something, choose how long it should stay, and drop it.
Dropped notes will float here, then fade on their own.

A cleaner desktop.
A lighter mind.
NoteDrop is a small app for small thoughts. It doesn't replace your notes app, your task manager, or your calendar.
